Who can submit stories?
GoodStoryADay Young Writer’s Contest is open to all youth
who are under the age of 20 by June 21, 2010 and who want to share stories
with others to make the world a better place. If you fit those two
qualifications then, here is your opportunity. We encourage young writers
to submit their stories, now. The owner, employee, family member or
person in any way related to GoodStoryADay.com or GoodStoryADay.com, Inc.
may not participate in this contest.
What types of stories are acceptable?
Your story can be real or imaginary. The characters can be real or based on
real people or imaginary things. Tell the story in such a way that you get
your reader to really know the characters and believe that the story could
happen, if not in the real world, then in an imaginary one. As you can see
by the writing categories listed to the right that the GoodStoryADay stories
can be extremely varied. You can write and submit any of the listed types
of stories, but you are not restricted to them. See "Some Possible Types
of Stories" to the right.
How you tell the story is up to you. But it must have a beginning, a middle
development, and an end that is the high point of the story, resolves the
issues or problem addressed in the story, and emotionally ties the reader
to a heroic main character. However, if it is a poem or a word picture, for
example, then you may not have characters and a plot. You might have
beautiful or exciting word images and sounds instead.
What subjects can I write about?
You can submit stories of every sort that give people hope, love,
encouragement, happiness, joy, fun, entertainment, and goodness.
They should be stories that create good pictures and action. Stories
that overcome obstacles and frustrations. Stories that tell a dream and
tell of beating the odds. The central focus of all the stories should be
goodness, because if we focus on goodness we will improve the world
one child, one family, one story at a time! Just think of the good you
can do by sharing your story and helping others see the world as a
better place because of you. See "Good Word Topics" to the right for
good ideas about which to write.
How many stories can I submit?
Feel free to submit several stories as often as you wish. However, make
each story as great as you can make it. Pay attention to the words you
select to use. Make them vivid and colorful. Make your sentences easy
to read and build your story so that your reader can hardly wait to find
out what happens next. It is fun. Let your imagination carry your story
forward and conclude with a really good ending. This applies to real and
imaginary stories as well. So spend time on telling one story really well.
When that is done, submit your story and then start working on your
next one and make it also a truly outstanding story.
Can I allow others to help me write and correct
my story?
Yes, if you have a story in mind, go ahead and write it, then get help with
perfecting it. If you don't feel that you have great writing skills, share the
story with someone who likes to write, or have your teacher, parents,
grandparents, librarian, or counselor help you. Even though this is a contest
you can get lots and lots of help as long as you write the story yourself and
the storyline is yours. It must be your original story.
What if my story has been previously
published?
If your story has been published previous to your submitting it to
www.GoodStoryContest.com, then you need to provide the publishing
information and show proof of permission from the publisher that you own
the copyright and have the right to allow your story to be published on
GoodStoryADay.com. If it is published by another publisher, the exposure
you get by having it published in GoodStoryADay.com will increase your
and your story’s popularity, thus this will bring more sales to your publisher
and you.
Can two or more people write and submit
one story?
Yes, many stories and books are co-authored. However, to submit a
co-authored story you must have a written agreement signed by you and
the other authors and the parents or guardians involved if the authors are
under 18. You need to have in writing facts relating to creating the story, its
copyright and ownership. However, all authors must meet the age limit.
Should I, as a submitting author, share my
submission with others after I have
submitted it?
No. Once you have perfected your story and shared it with your family,
teacher and others who are helping you perfect your story, then do not
share it with others. We prefer to keep the stories published on
GooodStoryADay.com fresh and new to our readers. Also, if you have
a really good story idea, you will not want to share it with others who
might write similar stories.
What length should the story be?
If you can tell your story or read it in two to ten minutes, that would be
perfect. Stories should be between 200 and 1,000 words (1 to 4 pages
double-spaced). But your story will not be eliminated because of its
length. However, it should be near the length or the parameters given.
Poems and jokes, for example, can be very short. If stories are long,
they can be serialized.
When should I submit?
The Good Story Contest for Young Writers, First Phase 2009 ends onJune 21, 2010.
But you should submit your story as soon as possible. Submit only one
story at a time, but submit as many as you wish. Set a goal date for yourself
and keep it. You will feel great as a result. For fastest processing of your story,
please submit your story in the box provided under
Enter Contest on this
site. All entries must be received by electronic transmission. If you do not
have home access to a computer, then go to a school or library and ask to
use theirs. If you are under18, you must have your parent’s or guardian’s
consent which will be requested by GoodStoryADay.com when you are in
the final winning rounds. You do not need their permission when you submit
the story, only when the story is published.
Should I include my bio and my photo with
my story submission?
If you are among the winning contestants, you might be asked to submit a
current picture of you and a short "bio" - a paragraph of 50 words or less
about you. Your entry, if published, can become a great advertisement for
your work in the future and will help establish you as an author. Once your
name is in print or on the Internet and your talent is displayed, you never
know the opportunities this will open for you! Give your name, age if under
20, your school or work, your city, your special talents, accomplishments
and dreams, and contact information.
Can the author’s name be withheld for
privacy reasons?
Yes, if you and your parent or guardian request that your name and identity
be withheld, no information about you will be published including your name.
You can use a pen name, which many authors do. You need to consult with
legal counsel to determine the viability of using a pen name. All submissions
must contain your legal name, but your legal name, photo, or other identifying
factors will not be published with your work unless we have your permission
in writing to do so.
What is GoodStoryADay.com Privacy Policy?
GoodStoryADay.com Privacy Policy states that all materials and contact
information will not be shared with anyone without the contributor's written
permission. Submitting your story does not authorize use by
GoodStoryADay.com, any affiliate, or ssociated party. We will not publish
your story until you have signed a release form allowing it to be published on
GoodStoyADay.com. This would not prohibit you from using and publishing
your story elsewhere.
Who owns the copyright of the stories
submitted in this contest?
The author and/or possibly the publisher, agent or someone else who has
been assigned the copyright, not GoodStoryADay.com, Inc., owns the
copyright of author’s intellectual property. If a submitted story is
co-authored, then the authors would probably copyright the work jointly.
See
www/copyright.gov for detailed copyright information governing the
United States of America or seek legal counsel.
What happens to stories once they are
received by GoodStoryContest.com?
When we at GoodStoryADay receive your story through
GoodStoryContest.com, we will E-mail an acknowledgment to you.
Keep in mind that we will be judging stories every month. So if yours
does not get into the current group, then it will eventually be considered.
Please, be patient, and please do not contact us if you have not heard
from us. We will keep you informed of your progress, via E-mail only.
Judging stories is an important, yet time-consuming process. If your story
is chosen, you will be notified by E-mail. However, if your story is not chosen,
you will not receive a rejection letter because there are future projects for
which it could be considered.
Once your story is accepted as a winning story, we will copyedit and proof
it. Only with your final approval will we publish it on our web site,
www.GoodStoryADay.com. If your story is potentially very good but still
needs some work for it to be a contending winner, the story could be returned
to you with suggestions for improvements. If this should occur, you may
decide to rewrite your story and resubmit it or not. That decision is up to you.
What prizes are being offered?
Click Here on Prizes to discover the 6,001 prizes with a collective value of
over $3,000,000 that will be awarded to young writers. All decisions made
by the judges are final. No response will be given to inquiries about winning
status.
If two or more identical or closely related stories are submitted by one or
more authors, the first one received will be considered. However
Many, many thanks for considering sending in your stories!
I look forward to hearing from you. Always remember to have fun and truly
